About 10 years ago, Dairy Management Inc. — a trade organization that promotes the consumption of dairy products — asked MMS Education to help them develop a program that would increase physical activity and healthy eating in youth across the country. The end result of that collaboration was Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP 60), the nation’s largest in-school health and wellness program. MMS has been involved in the growth of this program every step of the way, from providing program strategy, management & implementation to technical & development support.

A key element of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program is its recognition of both student and adult participants in the annual Student Ambassador Summit. Now in its ninth year, the Summit has developed into a once-in-a-lifetime event for many students and educators across the country. What is Fuel Up to Play 60?

Fuel Up to Play 60 is the nation’s largest in-school health and wellness program! Created by the National Dairy Council and the NFL in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the program empowers student leaders and adult supporters to increase opportunities for and participation in healthy eating and physical activity in our nation’s schools every day.

What is the Student Ambassador Summit?

Each year, Student Ambassadors (student leaders within the FUTP 60 program) and Program Advisors (educators within the FUTP 60 program) are selected from across the country to come together at this amazing, four-day event.

This year, the Summit took place in Atlanta, Georgia, from July 16 to 19.

At the Summit, stellar student leaders connect and share ideas, receive leadership and communications training, and create a plan to make their schools healthier during the next school year (and beyond!). Students who attend the Summit are projected to impact 250,000 lives across the United States in the school year following the Summit. Each Summit is a unique experience, held in a different city each year and hosting amazing guests from CEOs to NFL players.

MMS Education plays a prominent role at the Summit. We lead student and educator focus groups as well as educator discussion groups to further our research, knowledge, and expertise within the education industry. Then we take what we have learned and utilize the data as appropriately needed with our client base.

As the Summit has grown in numbers, the potential for collaborators, partners, and sponsors continues to grow. To date, Summit supporters include companies such as Quaker Oats, Nike, Dannon, and Waring Commercial, to name just a few.
