Susan Meell

RESPONSIBILITIES: Susan’s primary responsibilities include overseeing MMS Education’s long-term strategy and growth, guiding new business development, and building the company’s management team. Susan also serves as a senior-level consultant and executive project manager for clients, helping them evaluate their position in the market, review their sales and marketing initiatives for school programs, and test and develop new strategies for growth. Susan has also worked with many nonprofits and corporate foundations to help them develop, activate, and measure their social impact initiatives in the school market. This has included developing and managing several student competitions in both higher education and K–12, ranging from an international competition for MBA students to several STEM-based programs.

As CEO of MMS Education, Susan works closely with the executive team to continually improve the quality and range of services MMS provides its clients. In the past few years, this has included expanding the tools and systems we offer our clients to help them measure and report on their programs, plus other technology-based solutions such as EdReach.info, a customized, proprietary platform we use with clients in the education market.

Susan is a frequent featured speaker at industry events and webinars, and has contributed to a number of professional marketing and education newsletters.

PRIOR EMPLOYMENT: Before joining MMS Education, Susan spent eight years in marketing and communications at Education Management Corporation in Manhattan. Prior to that, she held marketing and sales positions in publishing.

EDUCATION: BA, Miami University (Oxford, OH)

Board of Directors, Media Source, Inc. (Junior Library Guild, Library Journal, School Library Journal, and The Horn Book), 2008–2011

PERSONAL: Susan enjoys any activity on a beach, taking walks, reading, and going to the theater or opera. Contrary to the belief that cats cannot be trained, she has developed the unique ability to herd cats and does so on a daily basis with a feisty white Persian who responds (usually) to the clap of her hands.

Susan notes, “Ever since I joined MMS Education in 1986, I have loved the challenge of helping our clients solve problems and find new solutions in the education market. Through our efforts and the many programs we have helped our clients develop and implement, I know we have changed the lives of teachers and students nationwide — and that is the greatest reward of all.”
