About Karen:
As Principal of MMS Education, Karen helps organizations develop and implement initiatives that inform, accelerate and engage people in education and social change. For the past two decades, her work with clients has focused on the intersection of health, education, community well-being and equity, including collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation childhood obesity team, evaluating school wellness policies and helping to execute the Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative. Karen supports strategic planning and data-gathering efforts, national and regional school- and community-based programs, thought leader communications and bringing together diverse voices for meaningful dialogue and action.

Karen’s favorite part of her job is pulling together and working with project teams that represent broad and diverse experiences, skills and perspectives. She likes creating pathways and processes that help move projects forward, blending the rigor of logic models and what-if, why-not thinking.

Prior to joining MMS, Karen earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University in International Relations, with a focus on nutrition policy in developing countries. Karen went on to work in design and production for Springer-Verlag New York, an international publisher specializing in science, mathematics and technology.

In her free time, Karen enjoys rowing, running, biking, playing piano and adventuring in the kitchen.

Childhood Dream Job: Making a difference

If Karen had a million dollars to spend on helping students: She would give resources to local school communities to help them identify what they want and need to help their kids thrive.
