NASTF, along with the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) and the Center for State and Local Government Excellence (SLGE), and with support from the Wells Fargo Foundation, set out to establish the Financial Wellness Education and Support Program. This first-of-its-kind state and local government initiative will inform and guide the development of state and local government financial wellness programs.

The program, which began in September 2020, will inform and educate state and local government employees across the country on how to be financially well and plan for retirement. NASTF called on MMS to develop the Financial Wellness Education and Support Toolkit, a collection of ready-to-use resources for state and local leaders to use when designing and implementing financial wellness programs.

What we did.
  • Conducted an environmental scan and competitive research to inform the content of the toolkit.
  • Developed personal and targeted messages by type of audience to guide the writing and design process.
  • Provided strategic counsel on the toolkit assets and outlined the resources needed for a wide variety of environments: online, in-person and blended.
  • Created all the content for the toolkit elements, including sample presentations, talking points, informational flyers, checklists and reference lists, FAQs, sample legislation, advocacy letters and templated op-eds, and other public relations resources.
  • Designed a digital conference program to help guide the planning and hosting of virtual and in-person events.
  • Coordinated with all grant partners to ensure project elements contained the right messages, the appropriate resources and detailed guidelines to meet the needs of their respective members.
“We were thrilled with the work of MMS from start to finish. The team was professional, asked great questions and were responsive to feedback from all our partners. Their product was polished and their expertise in delivering educational materials for all audiences was evident in their work.”
