Sarah Strunk is an independent consultant who works with the MMS team. She brings to clients 30 years of experience in strategic planning and business planning; program development, evaluation, and dissemination; and fundraising. She has worked in leadership roles and consulted with clients in a range of sectors, including philanthropy, health care and public health, managed care, and nonprofits.

Most recently, she worked with Healthy Places by Design from 2001-2021, serving as founding Deputy Director, Executive Director and, finally, Strategic Advisor. Previously, she was Director of External Affairs at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Sarah also served as Director of Corporate Planning at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, and in strategic planning and business planning roles at Duke University Medical Center and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

She earned an MHA from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1991, and a BA from Duke University in 1987. She enjoys training for and running marathons, hiking, hot yoga, traveling, and cooking. Sarah is a proud resident of Durham, NC, where she strives to check her white privilege and advocate for racial justice and healing.
